Honoring the Mothering Journey: Prenatal & Postnatal Yoga at Palestra

Following our Studio’s May theme of Matrika — the divine energy of language, creation, and mothering — we’re turning our attention this week to the powerful, embodied journey of motherhood and how our yoga practice can support it.

Whether you’re expecting a baby or already navigating new parenthood, yoga offers a sacred space to connect, breathe, and build strength… in body, mind, and spirit!

At Palestra Spa & Studio, our Prenatal Yoga and postnatal Baby & Me Yoga classes are designed to nurture, empower, and support mothers and caregivers through all stages of this deeply personal and transformative journey.

We also offer Childbirth Education workshops, in partnership with Clt Prenatal Collective, and coming soon: Yoga for Kids, big and small!

Why Prenatal Yoga?

Prenatal yoga is a gentle, intentional practice that supports pregnant individuals physically and emotionally throughout each trimester. It’s a space to slow down, connect with your baby, and listen to your body’s wisdom.

Benefits of Prenatal Yoga:

  • Relieves common pregnancy discomforts (back pain, fatigue, swelling)
  • Improves sleep, mobility, and circulation
  • Strengthens pelvic floor awareness in preparation for birth
  • Promotes connection to baby and maternal intuition
  • Encourages mindful breathing, useful during labor
  • Reduces anxiety and promotes emotional wellbeing

Our prenatal classes include safe movement, breathwork, and meditative rest — all led by teachers trained in perinatal yoga and committed to your comfort and care.

What is Baby & Me Yoga?

Baby & Me Yoga is a joyful, bonding experience for postpartum caregivers and their babies (typically 6 weeks to pre-crawling). It’s not just about movement — it’s about connection, healing, and finding community during early parenthood.

Benefits of Baby & Me Yoga:

  • Gently supports postpartum recovery
  • Builds strength and relieves tension in neck, shoulders, and back
  • Encourages bonding through movement, touch, and eye contact
  • Includes baby massage, playful songs, and developmentally supportive poses
  • Provides a supportive, welcoming space to connect with other parents

There’s no pressure — feeding, diaper changes, and fussing are welcome. These classes are about showing up as you are and honoring your journey, however it looks that day.

Yoga That Celebrates All Forms of Mothering

As we reflect on the meaning of Matrika — the “little mothers” of sound and the creative force behind all we bring into being — we remember that mothering is not just a title, but an energy we carry into the world.

Whether you’re growing a baby, nurturing a business, healing your body, or showing up for someone else, your journey is worthy of care and recognition.
